GLEN FREY, GOD BLESS YOU

ON JANUARY 18, THE WORLD SUFFERED ANOTHER LOSS OF AN ICON, GLEN FREY THE ORIGINAL BAND MEMBER OF THE EAGLES.

AFTER SEEING THE SPECIAL ON THE EAGLES IN 2013 ON SHOWTIME, I DECIDED I WANTED TO SEE THEM IN PERSON.  THE WERE EXPANDING THEIR CONCERT DATE TO INCLUDE ALBRUN HILLS, MICHIGAN IN DETROIT, WHICH IS AN HOUR FROM MY HOUSE.

I QUICKLY BOUGHT THE TICKETS IN JULY AND WAITED TILL SEPTEMBER WHEN THE CONCERT WAS SCHEDULED TO BE.   I HAD NEVER BEEN TO A CONCERT BEFORE, AND I CAN TELL YOU AT 56 YEARS OF AGE, I FELT LIKE A KID.  ALL THE PEOPLE THERE WERE MY AGE OR OLDER.

I ASK MY DAUGHTER KATHERINE WHO WAS  24 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME TO COME WITH ME BECAUSE I DIDN’T WANT TO GO ALONE, SHE  CAME WITH ME,  EVEN THO SHE WANTED TO BE SOMEPLACE ELSE.

OUR SEATS WERE ACROSS FROM THE STAGE UP ALMOST TO THE TOP OF THE STADIUM, I ALMOST GOT VERTIGO LOOKING DOWN TO THE CENTER OF THE VENUE.

WE ARRIVED FOUR HOURS BEFORE THE SHOW WAS TO START, BUT THEY WOULDN’T LET US INTO THE BAR UNTIL AN HOUR BEFORE THE SHOW.

WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT DOWN, SILENCE CAME OVER THE STADIUM…SLOWLY TWO SPOTLIGHTS CAME UP, AND THERE SIT, GLEN FREY, DON HENLEY AND BERNIE LEADON.

THE REST IS HISTORY.  THE HISTORY OF THE EAGLES PARTS I AND II.
